New Delhi:

The final count for the Lok Sabha 2024 elections has concluded, with the Election Commission of India announcing the results for all constituencies. The BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi emerged victorious in 240 out of 543 seats, while the Congress secured 99 seats. Although the Lok Sabha has 543 members, counting was conducted for 542 seats due to the uncontested election of BJP’s Surat candidate, Mukesh Dalal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lead the government for a third consecutive term, supported by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which has obtained a majority. Despite falling short of the 272-majority mark, the BJP will rely on NDA allies to form the government. The election results did not deliver the overwhelming victory anticipated by the BJP-led NDA or predicted by the exit polls.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will attend the NDA meeting in Delhi today, with Kumar departing at 10:45 a.m. and Shinde at 11 a.m. The Narendra Modi-led government will hold a Cabinet meeting at 11:30 a.m. to dissolve the current government and form a new one.

In Delhi, the BJP won all seven Lok Sabha seats for the third consecutive time, defeating the AAP-Congress alliance. BJP candidates Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Praveen Khandelwal, Bansuri Swaraj, Harsh Malhotra, Manoj Tiwari, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, and Yogender Chandoliya won with significant margins.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP faced a substantial challenge from the INDIA bloc, led by the Samajwadi Party, which won 37 seats. This reduced the BJP’s count to 35 from 62 seats in 2019. The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) secured 29 seats, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) secured 22 seats, and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) secured 16 seats.

Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat for the second consecutive time with a margin of over 3.64 lakh votes against CPI’s Annie Raja. Gandhi also won from Rae Bareli, but he has not yet decided which constituency he will represent in the Lok Sabha.

Prime Minister Modi remarked that the BJP-led NDA’s third successive government is a victory for the vision of “Viksit Bharat” and the strong faith of the people in India’s Constitution. He noted that it is the first time since 1962 that a government completing two full terms has won a third successive term.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi thanked the people of Wayanad and Rae Bareli for their support, stating that they have saved the Constitution and democracy in the country.
